How to Apply Aadhar Services for NRI

Government of India pays high importance to the registration of people living in India. That is why, a very robust system was launched in 2010. The outcome of this that several Aadhar Enrollment Centre were setup to quickly run the registration process.

After its launch, a large number of Indian residents get their Aadhar which is a 12 digit unique number. Due to the heavy rush in Aadhar Enrollment Centre, Government of India quickly opened several canters for people comfort and flexibility.
Most of the people think that Aadhar is made for only Indian residents. But this is not true as non-resident Indians can also obtain Aadhar card.

There is a specific rule under section Aadhar Act 2016 that allows NRI (non-resident Indian) to get their Aadhar Card.

Aadhar Services for NRI

Non-resident Indian can obtain Aadhar card when following these conditions are fulfilled:

1. Being a NRI (non-resident Indian), you are residing in India for 182 days or more in 12 months. This is counted from the preceding 12 months from the date of filing Aadhar application.

2. You have an Indian address and you can verify this address. Aadhar is sent to the applicant at the address given at the time of the enrollment. If you give wrong address or where you no longer resides, you will not be able to receive your Aadhar Card for NRI.

How to Apply for Aadhar Services NRI

Being a NRI (non-resident Indian), you can apply for aadhar card by two means:

1. Online mode - In this mode, you have to visit UIDAI portal and make registration there. You may have to verify your mobile number and login via OTP SMS service. This is to ensure that no unauthorized access is granted and keeping people's personal information private & secure.

2. Offline Mode - This is the traditional mode whereby you have to visit any of the registered Aadhar Enrollment Centre and follow the process mentioned within the Centre.

Whatever mode you choose, you have to submit various documents such as birth certificate, PAN card and resident proof to meet the requirements for Aadhar card. You can submit these documents to the Aadhar staff in the Centre. The staff will analyze your document and if they think, there is any further document needed, they will ask for these documents from you.

After that, staff will take biometric details of 10 fingers. Once the process gets completed, you will be issued an acknowledge slip. This will contain Enrollment ID that you can use to track the status of your application.

If you are NRI (non-resident Indian), you do not need to worry. You should not face any problem in getting your card. UIDAI Aadhar Services for NRI helps greatly every individual in becoming Aadhar card holder. But please keep in mind, being a NRI, you will not be required to submit Aadhar card. Aadhar Act 2016 specifically mentions that NRI are totally exempt and no one can ask from them to produce Aadhar card for verification purpose.
